Shapes in Nature for Kids

Six shapes for children aged 6 to 8, hosted by Ben, an eight-year-old boy who finds everything out alongside the child. The hero of each episode is not an animal, it is a SHAPE. The course opens with a board of six, the hexagon, the spiral, the sphere, symmetry, the branch and the wave, and with the reason nature repeats them at all: each one solves something, and whoever spends less survives. Then it lights them one at a time. The hexagon in the honeycomb, in a thirty-metre column of basalt and in a snowflake with six arms. The spiral in the nautilus, whose every new chamber is a bigger copy of the last, in the sunflower's seeds and in the snail's shell. The sphere in the soap bubble, in the raindrop that was never a teardrop, and in a planet that gravity rounds off. Symmetry in the butterfly's wing, where the two sides grow separately from the same recipe, with the starfish's wheel as the counterexample. And the branch and the wave in the tree, the river, the lightning, your own lungs and the rings a stone opens in still water. Nothing in the course is rare or far away: it teaches a child to notice what was already in the kitchen, on the pavement and in tonight's sky.
