Records Management for Public Service Exams
This course is for Brazilian public service exams (concursos públicos) and the lessons are taught in Portuguese. Records and archives management (Arquivologia) appears in the syllabus of court clerk exams and scares people who have never heard of a retention schedule or the principle of provenance. This course starts from zero with Professor Daniel and teaches only what the exam boards ask, under the rules in force. Part one covers the fundamentals: what an archive is, the principles of provenance and original order, organic relationship, and the difference between documentary genre, species and type. Part two covers the records life cycle and records management: the three ages in Law 8,159, primary and secondary value, and the registry office, from receipt to dispatch. Part three covers classification, appraisal and the retention schedule: classification plans, transfer, accession, authorized disposal and the permanent appraisal committee. Part four covers arrangement, filing and preservation: filing methods, finding aids, the Brazilian description standard NOBRADE, conservation, microfilming and digitization. The last part covers legislation and digital records: Law 8,159, CONARQ and SINAR with the 2025 changes, the Access to Information Law, the LGPD data protection law, e-ARQ Brasil, digital signatures and the CNJ resolutions. The questions follow the exam-board style, with True or False and multiple choice, and every answer comes with the explanation and its legal basis.
